KATHMANDU:- Emphasis has been laid the need to draft laws to provide social justice as there various problems are arising due to the lack of legal clarity related to health.
Speaking at a three-day conference on health care law that began in the capital on Friday, participants pointed out the need for specific laws to address matters of concern in the health care sector.
On the occasion, Acting Chief Justice Sapana Pradhan Malla emphasized on the need to formulate laws to provide protection to both patients and doctors. The judiciary is repealing old laws in accordance with the spirit of the Constitution.
Secretary at the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, Parashwar Dhungana, said the ministry is working to resolve the language aspect in the writing of laws and make it clear for ordinary people to understand.
Nepal Bar Association President, Prof. Dr Bijay Prasad Mishra, said that the safety of health workers has been legally ensured and stressed that health workers should also provide health services responsibly.
Nepal Medical Association President Dr Anil Bikram Karki said that a new law should be made so that doctors can provide health services safely without fear or intimidation.
President of the Policy Research Institute, Prof. Dr. Premraj Neupane, shared that the program was organized to provide assistance in making necessary legal provisions to solve various problems seen in the health care sector and its regulation.
Professor of Kathmandu School of Law, Prof. Dr. Geeta Pathak Sangraula, said that the outcome of the national demographic health survey has not been reflected in the law concerned.(RSS)
