Deuba faction decides to move court seeking to halt general convention process
KATHMANDU:- The non-establishment faction of the Congress party is preparing to move the court, demanding a halt to the 15th General Convention process.
A leader disclosed that the decision to approach the court was made during a meeting of top leaders held on Thursday at Dr. Shashank Koirala’s residence in Maharajgunj.
Min Bishwakarma, coordinator of the publicity committee for the non-establishment faction, has announced that the meeting held in Maharajgunj decided to approach the court. “A decision has been made to file a petition in court demanding that the general convention be halted as soon as possible,” he said, adding, “The petition will be registered by Friday.”
The rival faction maintains that the general convention process should not proceed, given that the court is set to rehear the dispute regarding the party’s official legitimacy. However, the party has already moved forward with the general convention process. According to the latest decision by the Central Election Committee, the party’s ward-level convention is scheduled for Bhadra 24, (September 9).
While maintaining its prior decision to hold the 15th General Convention in Kathmandu from Ashwin 16 to 19,(October 2-5) the Congress has revised the schedule for conventions at the lower levels.
