Army mobilized for additional security

KATHMANDU:- In the wake of GenZ demonstration unleashing anarchy, the Nepali Army has been mobilised in the curfew-imposed areas, including New Baneshwor of Kathmandu.

The Nepali Army personnel were mobilised after the Kathmandu administration imposed curfew in a bid to tame the rowdy protest, and the local security committee requested additional support.

Spokesperson of the Nepali Army, Rajaram Basnet, informed that a contingent of the Nepali Army was mobilised in the curfew-clamped area upon the request of the local security committee in view of an anarchic demonstration that tried to enter the parliament building.

The GenZ demonstration began from Maitighar this morning and advanced to New Baneshwor via Bijulibazar. It breached the restricted area of New Baneshwor which houses the federal parliament building. The protestors committed arson and vandalism at the gate of the building, prompting Nepal Police to open blank firing and making dozens of tear gas shells.

Over 30 police personnel, including a Deputy Superintendent of Police and an Inspector, have been injured in the clash, while dozens of protestors received injuries.

Meanwhile, Kathmandu District Administration has extended the curfew area in the district.
