AAPI’s ‘AAPICON 2027’ national conference kicks off in Oak Brook, Illinois

AAPI honored the Mayor with its 'Distinguished Leadership Award' in recognition of the support shown to the medical community. At the ceremony, Dr. Medavaram—representing both AAPI and the Indian Medical Association—presented her vision for 'AAPICON 2027'.

ILLINOIS:- The ‘AAPICON 2027’ national conference of the American Association of Physicians of Indian Origin (AAPI) has commenced in Oak Brook, Illinois.

According to a released statement, the conference is being attended by hundreds of physicians, healthcare leaders, elected officials, community representatives, and distinguished guests.

Welcoming the participants, Conference Co-Chair Dr. Utpal Parikh emphasized the importance of unity, collaboration, and shared purpose in making ‘AAPICON 2027’ an extraordinary success.

The inaugural session of the national conference began with Dr. Radhika Chimata singing the American and Indian national anthems, followed by the honoring of Dr. Suresh Reddy. Upon receiving the honor, Dr. Reddy invited Oak Brook Mayor Larry Herman and Village Manager and CEO Greg Summers to join him on stage to acknowledge the long-standing collaboration between the community and AAPI.

Mayor Herman praised the extraordinary contributions made by Indian-American physicians in the fields of medicine, education, research, and humanitarian service, both in the United States and across the globe. He issued an official proclamation recognizing AAPI (American Association of Physicians of Indian Origin) as the nation’s largest medical organization.

Mayor Herman’s proclamation honored Oak Brook for having served as the international headquarters of AAPI for over three decades and also recognized three AAPI national presidents hailing from the area: the organization’s 11th president, Dr. Gopal Lalmalani; the 36th president, Dr. Suresh Reddy; and Dr. Medavaram.

AAPI honored the Mayor with its ‘Distinguished Leadership Award’ in recognition of the support shown to the medical community. At the ceremony, Dr. Medavaram—representing both AAPI and the Indian Medical Association—presented her vision for ‘AAPICON 2027′.

Dr. Medavaram stated, “AAPICON 2027 will be a collaboration for excellence, a platform for scientific innovation, a testament to the commitment toward physicians’ well-being, a hub for mentoring the next generation of doctors, a venue for expanding global health initiatives, and a renewed dedication to serving humanity.”

Conference Chair Dr. Umang Patel pledged to organize one of the finest conferences in the history of AAPI.

AAPI Treasurer Dr. Sujit Punnam presented goals regarding fundraising, participation, and national-level engagement in preparation for the conference. Senior Advisor Dr. Bharat Barai has provided strategic guidance in this regard.

Dr. Dwarkanath Reddy, the Overseas Coordinator for the ‘Global Health Summit 2027’ to be held in Hyderabad, India, extended a formal invitation to physicians worldwide to participate in the summit.

Dr. Lalmalani, a former president of AAPI, recalled the organization’s renaming to ‘American Association of Physicians of Indian Origin’ (AAPI) to better reflect its inclusive mission, the relocation of its headquarters to Oak Brook, and the historic achievement of bringing the sitting U.S. President to the AAPI national convention.

Illinois Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi praised the Indian-American community, describing it as one of the country’s fastest-growing, highly educated, and successful communities. Acknowledging their professional achievements, he urged physicians to increase their participation in civic life through voting, public service, advocacy, and leadership.

Dr. Ranga Reddy, a former president of AAPI—who has systematically documented the organization’s history and previously assisted in organizing conferences in Chicago—shared valuable insights gained from past conferences and pledged his full support to the organizing committee.
