Diamond merchant Dhiru Ramani kidnapped in Mali released after Rs 440 million ransom
NEW DELHI:- Dhiru Ramani, a diamond merchant of Indian origin who was kidnapped in Mali, has been released by his abductors after his family paid a ransom of 4 million euros. Ramani had been living in Mali for some time and had recently acquired a gold mine.
The kidnappers initially demanded a ransom of approximately 100 crore rupees for Ramani’s release, but he was eventually freed after his family members living in the US negotiated to lower the amount. Family sources informed the media of his release.
According to sources, the family paid a ransom of 4 million euros last week to secure his release in the West African nation of Mali.
Ramani, originally from the Amreli district of Gujarat and associated with the diamond trade in Surat, is reportedly still in Mali, where local authorities are questioning him following his release.
