Landslide blocks Karnali Highway; hundreds of passengers stranded
KALIKOT:- Traffic on the Karnali Highway has been completely halted following a landslide—involving large boulders—in the Chaukhola area of Kalikot.
Transportation services were disrupted after a landslide, bringing down large rocks and soil onto the road, occurred on Wednesday morning. With the road blocked, dozens of vehicles traveling to and from Mugu, Jumla, Kalikot, and Surkhet have been stranded since early morning, leaving hundreds of passengers stuck mid-journey.
Due to the landslide, passenger vehicles as well as cargo vehicles transporting food and essential supplies have been stranded en route.
The District Police Office, Kalikot, stated that a team equipped with machinery has been mobilized in coordination with the Road Division Office, Jumla, to clear the blocked road and restore traffic.
Kalikot Police Chief, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Him Bahadur Khatri, informed that it would take some time to reopen the road due to a delay in the arrival of the equipment needed to clear the landslide debris.
