Kathmandu Gorkhas also in NFL

KATHMANDU:- Dhangadhi FC and Kathmandu Sports Development Ventures Pvt. Ltd. have entered into a partnership aimed at expanding investment and collaboration within the Nepali sports sector.

Through this collaboration, a new entity—Sudurpaschim Sports Ventures Company—has been established with the objective of organizing football, cricket, and various other sporting activities.

Subas Shahi, the operator of Dhangadhi FC, and Kathmandu Sports Development Ventures will hold equal investments in the new company. According to the agreement, Dr. Upendra Mahato will serve as the Chairman, Subas Shahi as a Director, and Anubhav Swar Sirohiya as the Executive Director. It has been stated that additional members will be added to the company’s Board of Directors over time.

Kathmandu Gorkhas, a team owned by Kathmandu Sports Development Ventures, is competing in the Nepal Premier League (NPL) cricket tournament. The partnership involves Kantipur Publications, Dr. Upendra Mahato, and the Yak & Yeti Hotel. Through this collaboration, the organization—which has already been investing in cricket—is now expanding its involvement into other sports, including football.

Under the new company, Dhangadhi FC will participate in the recently announced Nepal Football League. Additionally, plans are in place to invest in the development of grassroots and women’s football.

Established six years ago, Dhangadhi FC has competed in three editions of the Nepal Super League (NSL), which operates on a franchise model. The club, owned by the company Go Dreamers, reached the final in the first and second editions, while in the third edition, it advanced as far as the playoffs.

Dhangadhi FC, representing the Sudurpaschim province, has been striving to connect this region to the national sports landscape through football. Club President and Director Subash Shahi has been expanding the club’s activities by collaborating with various partners.

Shahi has described this new partnership as a positive step toward bringing investment into Nepali football.

“The influx of investment at this juncture sends a significant message to Nepali football. Personally, I view this very positively. I would like to welcome Kathmandu Sports Development Ventures to Dhangadhi FC. It demonstrates that it is indeed possible to achieve something meaningful in Nepali football,” he said.

Expressing his belief that such collaborations would open doors for investment in other clubs as well, Shahi noted that this initiative would also contribute to development in other sectors, including tourism, in the Sudurpaschim region.

Anubhav Swar Sirohiya, representing Kathmandu Sports Development Ventures in this new partnership, stated that the collaboration with Dhangadhi FC was formed with the objective of extending the investments already being made in cricket to other sports as well.

“We have been making significant investments in cricket through Kathmandu Sports Development Ventures Pvt. Ltd. With the aim of expanding into other sports, we have become involved with Sudurpaschim Sports Ventures through Dhangadhi FC. Being associated with football—a popular sport in Nepal—is highly significant for us. We have entered this space with the objective of making Nepali football even more popular,” he said.
