Spanish climber successfully climbs Mount Jugal-2 for the first time

KATHMANDU:- The first successful ascent of Jugal-2—a 6,518-meter-high peak within the Jugal mountain range in Jugal Rural Municipality, Sindhupalchok—has been completed.

Three Spanish mountaineers—Mikel Zabalza, Mikel Saez, and Ruben Perez—successfully climbed Jugal-2.

According to Milan Tamang, Chairperson of the Jugal Rural Municipality Tourism Committee, the climbing team reached the summit and has since returned to the base camp.

Tamang stated that this first ascent has opened up possibilities for climbing other peaks within the Jugal mountain range. He expressed confidence that this achievement would help promote Nepal’s mountain tourism on an international stage.

Resham Syangbo, Chairperson of the Rural Municipality, congratulated the Spanish team on their successful first ascent of Jugal-2—a peak considered challenging—noting that this accomplishment would further establish the profile of Nepal’s Himalayan tourism, particularly that of the Jugal mountain range, at an international level.

Jugal Rural Municipality is conducting ‘Jugal Visit Year 2083,’ prioritizing mountain expeditions, the promotion of trekking trails, and the development of tourism infrastructure. Through the ‘Destination Jugal’ campaign, the rural municipality aims to showcase its mountains, trekking trails, and religious and cultural heritage at both the national and international levels.

Previously, on Chaitra 26, 2075 BS, (April 9, 2019), a team led by Everest summiter Maya Gurung climbed the 6,126-meter-high Gyalchen Peak; subsequently, on Kartik 4, 2077 BS, a seven-member team led by Everest summiter Sharmila Lama successfully ascended the 6,184-meter-high Jugal-3 Himal. In Baishakh 2081 BS, foreign mountaineers successfully climbed Jugal-1 Himal for the first time.
