Netherlands sets Nepal a target of 226 runs
KATHMANDU:- The Netherlands has set a target of 226 runs for Nepal to win the fourth and final match of the tri-nation series under the ICC Cricket World Cup League 2.
Batting first after losing the toss on Wednesday, the host team, the Netherlands, scored 225 runs for the loss of nine wickets in their allotted 50 overs. Noah Croes and captain Scott Edwards played half-century innings for the Netherlands.
Noah scored a top score of 70 runs, and Captain Scott scored 57. Similarly, Logan van Beek scored 27 runs, Jack Lyon-Cassett 16, Bas de Leede 13, and Max O’Dowd 12.
In the bowling department, Nepal’s Karan KC alone claimed four wickets; he conceded 30 runs while bowling his full quota of 10 overs. Karan had also taken five wickets in the previous match against Namibia. Meanwhile, Dipendra Singh Airee took two wickets, while Hemant Dhami and Lalit Rajbanshi claimed one wicket each.
Having suffered defeats in its previous three matches due to a weak batting performance, Nepal is aiming to secure a consolation victory against the Netherlands today. Nepal had previously lost its first match to Namibia by eight wickets, the second to the host nation the Netherlands by six wickets, and was stunned by Namibia by three runs in the third match.
In the Nepal League, the team has dropped to sixth place with 24 points from 31 matches. Namibia holds fifth place with 26 points from the same number of matches, while the Netherlands sits in third place with 36 points from 30 matches.
In this eight-team League-2 competition, the top four teams—after playing a total of 36 matches against one another—will qualify for the World Cup Global Qualifier. To secure One Day International (ODI) status, a team must finish within the top six.
