Road networks across the country affected by floods and rain

KATHMANDU:- Rainfall has obstructed major highways and road sections across various districts of the country.

Releasing data valid up to 5:00 AM today, the Nepal Police reported that more than a dozen road sections have been affected by landslides, road washouts, and potential flooding.

According to the police, the operation of all types of vehicles has been prohibited from 6:00 PM to 4:00 AM on the Khurkot–Nepalthok–Katunjebesi section of the BP Highway—which connects Kavrepalanchok and Sindhuli—due to the potential risk of flooding. However, arrangements have been made to allow vehicle movement between 4:00 AM and 6:00 PM.

Similarly, the operation of all types of vehicles on the Kanti Lokpath has been prohibited from 5:00 PM to 5:00 AM due to the rainy season.

Traffic has been completely halted along the Mechi Highway at Rajduwali in Ilam Municipality-9, as the road has turned muddy due to the rain; however, an alternative route remains operational in the area.

Various sections of the Arniko Highway are completely blocked following landslides and road subsidence in the Zero Kilo, Kodari, and Liping areas of Bhote-Koshi Rural Municipality, Sindhupalchok.

Traffic has been disrupted on the Lamasanghu–Ramechhap road section after the Tamakoshi River eroded the road at Kirnetar in Tamakoshi Rural Municipality-5, Dolakha. However, police have reported that an alternative route has been brought into operation through the premises of the Khimti Rural Electricity Cooperative.

Similarly, the Pasang Lhamu Road in Rasuwa, the Nagm-Gamgadhi Road in Mugu, the Kaligandaki Corridor at Belbagar in Jaimini Municipality-8 (Baglung), the Bheri Corridor at Rijegard Khola in Rukum West, and the Beni-Jomsom road section at Kaiku Khola in Thasang Rural Municipality-4 (Mustang) are also completely blocked due to landslides.

Traffic has been disrupted at two locations along the Beni-Jomsom road section in Myagdi after the road was washed away in the Baiseri area of Raghuganga Rural Municipality-2 and the Bhirkate area of Annapurna Rural Municipality-7.

Police reported that traffic has been obstructed on the Madan Bhandari road section at Lekh in Rurukshetra Rural Municipality-4, Gulmi, following a dry landslide.

As the risk of landslides, floods, and road erosion persists during the monsoon season, the police have urged the public to check the condition of the roads with the concerned authorities before traveling.
