Paradise Intercollegiate Basketball Tournament from Saturday
KATHMANDU:- The first Paradise Inter-College Basketball Tournament, organized by Paradise Sports Academy, is set to begin on Saturday.
Badri Mahat, President of the organizing academy, announced at a press conference on Thursday that 15 boys’ teams and 7 girls’ teams would participate in the tournament. The teams will be divided into four groups for the boys’ category and two groups for the girls’ category, with matches played on a league-cum-knockout basis.
In the boys’ category, Group A consists of NIMS, Ritu, Manaslu, and Navodit, while Group B comprises Newton, Greenfield, CCRC, and Herald. Orient, Sagarmatha, Valley Public, and Laligurans National Academy are in Group C, and LRI, GoldenGate, and Xavier are in Group D. The group winners and runners-up will advance to the quarter-finals.
Similarly, the girls’ category features GoldenGate, NIMS, Sagarmatha, and Xavier ‘A’ in Group ‘A’, while LRI, Valley Public, and Xavier ‘B’ are in Group ‘B’. The group winners and runners-up will advance to the semi-finals.
Expressing confidence that the tournament would contribute—however modestly—to the development and expansion of basketball, President Mahat stated that promoting the newly constructed facility was another objective.
Academy founder Vishnu Bhandari stated that organizing the tournament would cost approximately 500,000 rupees. He noted that the construction of basketball facilities at the academy—which spans 10 ropanis—has been completed, and work on infrastructure for other sports is in the final stages.
Matches for the tournament, which runs until Shrawan 22, will be played on the organizers’ own court located at Saibaba Chowk in Tokha Municipality-3.
