Hollywood’s iconic theater ‘Cinerama Dome’ reopen

It was built in 1963 by William R. Foreman, the founder of Pacific Theatres, as a state-of-the-art facility designed to screen films using three projectors on its distinctive curved screen.

LOS ANGELES:- Hollywood’s iconic ‘Cinerama Dome’ theater is set to reopen following its renovation.

‘Alamo Drafthouse Cinema’ will operate the massive, 86-foot-wide curved dome theater and the adjoining 14-screen complex. Sony Pictures Entertainment, the owner of the property, has announced plans to renovate the dome and bring it back into operation by early 2028.

Alamo’s plan will preserve the Cinerama Dome’s distinctive ‘geodesic’ structure and logo; these features have been a hallmark of Hollywood since the theater opened in 1963.

Ravi Ahuja, Chairman and CEO of Sony Pictures Entertainment, said, “There is no other theater in the world quite like the Cinerama Dome, with its rich history and cultural significance. It embodies the kind of unique experience we value and champion.” Alamo Drafthouse CEO Michael Kustermann announced that the Dome will serve as the company’s new theater in the West Coast region.

It was built in 1963 by William R. Foreman, the founder of Pacific Theatres, as a state-of-the-art facility designed to screen films using three projectors on its distinctive curved screen.

When it closed in April 2021, the Cinerama Dome was one of only three theaters in the world possessing this capability. The operator stated that Pacific Theatres had to close the venue due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
