Dhir Bahadur and Sun Maya bag titles of 1st Chhayanath Ultra Race

JUMLA:- Dhir Bahadur Budha and Sun Maya Budha have secured the titles in the ‘First Chhayanath Ultra Race’ organised by Mugum Karmarong Rural Municipality in the district today.

The event was held in collaboration with the All Nepal Sports Foundation. Dhir Bahadur clinched the title in the men’s category and Sun Maya in the women’s category. It was a 33-km race, which kicked off from Kimri at 6:40 am today and was completed by reaching Pulu via Chhayanath and Chitaikuna.

There were a total of 58 runners, including 12 women, in the race. Under the men’s category, Dhir Bahadur finished in 3 hours, 57 minutes, and 25 seconds. He was trailed by Dal Bahadur Kunwar who crossed the stretch in 4 hours, 2 minutes, and 10 seconds.

The third one was Chandra Bahadur Rawat, who beat the distance in 4 hours and five minutes. Information officer at the rural municipality, Sovindra Malla, said it was Sun Maya Budha standing first among the women.

She completed the race in 5 hours, 25 minutes and 50 seconds. She was trailed by Ram Maya Budha (second), and Kalpana Budha (third). The organisers shared that 23 participants were athletes of an international level.

Those standing first in the race would receive a prize of Rs 200 thousand each, while the second ones Rs 150 thousand, and the third Rs 100 thousand.

Rural Municipality chairman, Tsering Kyapne Lama, said the competition was organised in a bid to develop the Chhayananath region as an international tourism destination for religious activities and adventure sports.

Even the promotion of local culture and natural heritage is expected via the adventure sports, he added.
