National Assembly demand clarification on PM’s remarks on border

KATHMANDU:- In the meeting of the National Assembly today, lawmakers voiced concerns over Prime Minister Balendra Shah’s remarks relating to border made in the House of Representatives’ meeting on May 31.     

NA member from the Nepali Congress, Kamala Devi Pant, urged the government that it clarified on the PM’s statements in order to clear obstruction in the parliamentary proceeding and regard border issues with much significance and seriousness.     

Jhakku Prasad Subedi from the Nepal Communist Party warned that the PM’s comments could lead to increased foreign interference and called for prompt clarification. Prem Prasad Dangal from the CPN (UML) also observed the PM’s statements could affect Nepal’s foreign policy and underscored the relations between border issues and national identity.     

Mahanth Thakur of the Janata Samajwadi Party demanded a collective focus on safeguarding nationality and sovereignty, while Tul Prasad Bishwakarma from Rastriya Janamorcha demanded removal of the PM’s remarks from the parliament records in view of the sensitivity of the issue.     

Earlier on Thursday itself, the parliamentary deadlock was cleared after Foreign Minister Shisir Khanal furnished clarifications in the PM’s statement on border issues. RSS
