Shashank Koirala’s letter to Sanepa and Election Commission to stop Congress’ activities
KATHMANDU:- Dr. Shashank Koirala, coordinator of the organizing committee for the Deuba-faction’s national gathering within the Nepali Congress, has urged that all significant party decisions—including the upcoming General Convention—be put on hold for the time being.
In letters sent to the Nepali Congress central office and the Election Commission, Koirala requested that party decisions remain in *status quo* until the Supreme Court delivers its final verdict, noting that the Court has already granted leave for a review regarding the dispute over the party’s legitimacy and leadership.
Noting that the full bench of the Supreme Court granted permission on Shrawan 22, (August 7) to rehear the case, Koirala has asserted that this development has once again brought the legitimacy of the Congress party and the legal standing of its leadership at the time under judicial scrutiny.
He has urged the then General Secretary Gagan Kumar Thapa and the concerned parties to halt the general convention process to prevent further legal complications within the party until the court reaches a final verdict on the matter.
Koirala has demanded the postponement of all organizational, technical, and policy-related schedules concerning the party’s 15th General Convention or a special general convention, as well as a halt to any long-term political, organizational, policy, and financial decisions until the court delivers its final verdict.
The Deuba faction has organized a national gathering from Shrawan 29 to 31, (August 14-16).
