SEATTLE:- On the occasion of America’s 250th anniversary, 252 immigrants received U.S. citizenship at a special ceremony held at Seattle Center.
These new American citizens, who arrived in the U.S. from 55 different countries, were welcomed by elected officials, community leaders, and groups of family and friends.
US Representative Pramila Jayapal said, “American identity is uniquely linked to generations of immigrants like you.”
“It has been 26 years since we came to this country,” said Maragoud. “Ultimately, we have become a part of it. We now feel a sense of belonging here.”
Kotapati said, “The aspect we cherish most is the freedom to practice our own culture and religion, and to be ourselves.”
While taking the oath of U.S. citizenship, Kotapati said, “You weave the unique threads of the gifts you bring—your culture, customs, music, art, and literature—into the fabric of this beautiful, evolving tapestry known as America.”
US Senator Maria Cantwell stated that Americans must remember that immigrants were present for the founding and preservation of the country. “American exceptionalism means we are a melting pot, and that melting pot makes us strong.”
Chief US District Judge David Estudillo administered the oath of office to 252 new citizens.
