Indian-American Pranitha Patil founded AI technology based Healthcare company
"I am very excited to envision a future—whether in five years or ten—where people can identify problems before they become serious, take necessary actions, and maintain a strong relationship with their health. If we can make this process that easy for people, we will certainly have done the right thing."
MARYLAND:- Pranitha Patil, an Indian-American entrepreneur, has founded a company valued at approximately $2.5 billion that aims to provide a comprehensive view of healthcare powered by AI technology.
Her company, named “Function,” will offer services including over 160 laboratory tests, state-of-the-art MRI and CT imaging, and AI-driven analysis.
According to the company, the service is designed to help users understand their test results and determine the appropriate next steps.
According to the company, while conducting similar tests individually would cost around $15,000, the annual membership fee is set at $365.
Pranitha Patil told the media, “The current healthcare system is such that people only seek care after a problem arises.” She added, “If I had known about those warning signs or elevated health indicators much earlier, I would have taken steps to address the issue.”
Pranitha said, “At first, I felt that a product like this must surely exist somewhere in the world, but I couldn’t find anything of the sort. Then, when I met my co-founder and CEO, Jonathan Swerdlin, I thought, ‘This product simply has to exist.’ I had no doubts or hesitation in making that decision.”
According to Patil, the venture—launched in collaboration with other members of the founding team—gained momentum. The driving force was the goal of empowering people to take control of their own health. In the five and a half years since the founding of ‘Function,’ that mission has continued to advance steadily.
According to Patil, ‘Function’ wanted to start with laboratory tests using urine and blood samples, but their vision was much broader than that. She said that the hardest part was “convincing investors about that expansive vision.”
The goal of Patil’s company is to reach 8 billion people soon, and AI is being used to achieve this objective.
Patil said, “As a company, we are currently in our ‘second phase.’ To make the first phase successful, we had to build a strong foundation through laboratories. It was essential that the laboratory processes be accurate and reliable, and that as many people as possible participate in them multiple times a year. That shift in people’s behavior did occur.”
According to Patil, the company expanded by acquiring other firms; this included adding ‘Supplement Intelligence’ through ‘SupCo’ and a home-based blood sample collection service through ‘GetLabs’. She noted that building all of this from scratch would have taken a long time.
Patil says, “I am very excited to envision a future—whether in five years or ten—where people can identify problems before they become serious, take necessary actions, and maintain a strong relationship with their health. If we can make this process that easy for people, we will certainly have done the right thing.”
