Prithvi Highway resumes to one-way traffic after clearance of debris

TANAHUN:- The Prithvi Highway, which was blocked after a landslide triggered by continuous rainfall, has reopened to one-way traffic following the clearance of debris.

According to Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Dwarika Prasad Ghimire, Information Officer at the Tanahun District Police Office, the Dumre–Ambukhaireni section of the highway resumed one-way operation around an hour after the obstruction was cleared.

The highway was completely blocked at around 8:00 am on Tuesday after a landslide struck Chunpahara in Bimalnagar, Bandipur Rural Municipality-4, Tanahun. Nepal Police cleared the debris, allowing traffic to resume approximately one hour and 15 minutes later.

Lal Kumar Shrestha, Chairman of the Siddha Cave Development Committee, said the risk of further landslides and falling rocks remains high as persistent rainfall continues in the area. He urged travellers to exercise extreme caution and undertake only essential journeys.

With continuous rainfall increasing the risk along riverbanks and road sections across Tanahun, the District Administration Office has appealed to the public to remain on high alert.

In a public notice, the administration, citing information from the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority and the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, urged residents living along the Marsyangdi, Seti, Madi, Trishuli, Kaligandaki and other small and large rivers to remain particularly vigilant.

Motorists and travellers have been advised to check road conditions before setting out and to avoid non-essential travel.

Chief District Officer Shivalal Tiwari said security agencies, road authorities and local governments have been placed on high alert, urging the public to avoid unnecessary movement.

He also requested citizens to immediately contact the District Emergency Operations Centre, Nepal Police or the relevant authorities in the event of any emergency.

According to the District Administration Office, although a mudslide that blocked the road at Ambukhaireni-2 on Monday night was cleared and traffic restored, the risk of landslides and falling rocks remains high at several locations along the Prithvi Highway, including the Ambukhaireni–Mugling section.

Travellers have therefore been urged to exercise heightened caution throughout the monsoon season.
