Nepali Congress controversy, Deuba group decides to hold separate general convention
KATHMANDU:- The faction led by outgoing Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba has decided to hold a separate General Convention. A meeting held on Monday at Deuba’s residence in Maharajgunj concluded that they could not participate in the General Convention under the terms decided by the party’s central office.
A meeting of the Congress Central Working Execution Committee held on Sunday had decided to include members of the 14th Central Committee in the current working committee, inviting them to participate in the General Convention. However, the Deuba faction rejected that decision and resolved to advance the General Convention process in its own way.
Prakash Sharan Mahat, a leader of the Deuba faction, stated that there was no logic behind making such a call just four days before the ward-level general convention. He affirmed the decision to proceed with the schedule for the 15th General Convention that his faction had previously proposed.
Mahat mentioned that informal discussions regarding the establishment faction’s decision had taken place and that a formal stance would be announced at a press conference scheduled for 4 PM today. With this decision by the Deuba faction, the Congress party is now poised to split into two.
