Congress vote counting update: Final results to be announced by tomorrow

KATHMANDU:- The Election Committee has stated that the vote-counting process to elect a new Central Working Committee—part of the Nepali Congress’s 15th General Convention—is proceeding in an organized, dignified, and rapid manner at the party’s central office in Sanepa.

Raju Katuwal, Member Secretary of the Congress Central Election Committee, informed that—with the Bada Dashain festival in mind—an average of 25 teams have been formed to expedite the process and ensure efficiency, allowing the counting of votes for various positions to proceed simultaneously.

Vote counting for two clusters concluded this morning, while the count for four other clusters is currently underway. Raju Katuwal, Member Secretary of the committee, stated that preparations are being made to begin counting for the remaining six clusters.

According to the Election Committee, the vote counting for seven Central Committee members—comprising two women and five open-category members—under the Public Relations cluster has been completed; the counting for the Joint General Secretary and Central Committee member positions under the ‘Backward Region’ cluster has also concluded.

Similarly, the vote counting for positions ensuring representation across all classes, regions, and the youth generation within the party is currently underway. Votes are presently being counted for the posts of Open Joint General Secretary, Female Joint General Secretary, and Female Central Committee Member.

Additionally, vote counting is proceeding rapidly for the posts of Joint General Secretary and Central Members representing Indigenous Nationalities; Central Members for the Sudurpaschim Province (under the open, women, and under-35 categories); and Central Members under the open category for those aged under 35. The Election Committee has stated that preparations are underway to accelerate the process and begin counting votes for the remaining clusters. Accordingly, the counting of votes for the 45 Central Members under the open category—a matter of significant public interest—is also commencing.

Additionally, the Congress media center has stated that preparations are underway to count votes for the posts of Joint General Secretary (Dalit); Central Members (Open, Women, and Madhesi Dalit); Joint General Secretary and Central Members (Minority and Disability); Joint General Secretary (Madhesi); Central Members (Open and Women); Joint General Secretary (Khas-Arya); Central Members (Open and Women); and Central Members (Open and Women) under the professional category.

The vote-counting process is proceeding rapidly, as 25 teams have been deployed simultaneously. It is expected that this will lead to the early announcement of final results for all positions and provide the party with new, strong leadership. There is an enthusiastic and cordial presence of party leaders, cadres, and well-wishers at the counting venue in Sanepa.

The Election Committee has stated that the counting is being conducted with the aim of announcing all results by tomorrow, Wednesday.
