Nepal wins seven medals at the International Kempo Open Cup in Portugal

KATHMANDU:- Roshan Kumar Yadav of Nepal has secured seven medals, including two golds, at the Kempo International Open Cup held in Portugal.

Competing in the ongoing championship in Albufeira, Portugal, Roshan Kumar won a total of seven medals: two golds, two silvers, and three bronzes. Pavel Shah, President of the Nepal Kempo Khukuri Federation, stated that Roshan added to Nepal’s medal tally by winning a bronze medal in the senior self-defense category. Athletes are eligible to compete in seven different Kempo disciplines.

14-year-old Roshan Kumar succeeded in winning gold medals in the Full Kempo (40 kg) and Submission Kempo (40 kg) categories. However, he had to settle for silver medals in Empty Hand Kata and Semi Kempo. Pavel Shah, President of the Kempo Khukuri Federation, stated that he also won bronze medals in Light Kempo and Self-Defense. Kempo is known as a hybrid form of martial arts.

The federation believes that the performance in the competition—organized by the Portuguese Kempo and International Kempo Federation (IKF)—demonstrated the capabilities of Nepali athletes and the potential of the new generation on the international stage. Pavel Shah, President of the Nepal Kempo Khukuri Federation, described the success achieved in Portugal as a major and historic milestone for Nepali Kempo.

“The addition of medals is a moment of pride for us. We are thrilled that a single athlete has won seven medals. This will strengthen Nepal’s standing on the international stage,” said President Shah.

Nepali Kempo has recently been delivering consistently strong performances in international competitions. According to the federation, Nepal won 25 medals across various categories at the Kempo World Championship held last April. The remarkable success achieved at the International Kempo Open Cup, following the World Championship, is regarded as a significant milestone for Nepali Kempo.

The Kempo Khukuri Federation extends its heartfelt congratulations and gratitude to the players, coaches, officials, parents, and all Nepali sports enthusiasts for this success.
