Election Commission begins updating voters’ list

KATHMANDU:- The Election Commission (EC) has started updating voters’ list from Thursday considering the election to the House of Representatives scheduled for March 5 next year.

After the authentication of an ordinance to amend the Voter Registration Act, 2073 by President Ramchandra Paudel, the Commission began registering new voters, which would be continued till November 16.

According to the statement issued by the Commission’s spokesperson Narayan Prasad Bhattarai, Nepali citizens who are over 16-year and have obtained a Nepali citizenship certificate can register their names at the concerned provincial and district election offices every day from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm except on public holidays. However, the newly registered persons as voters will be eligible for voting when they complete 18-year, Bhattarai made it clear.

The Commission has requested to provide the biometric details to the concerned election office through the ‘pre-registration’ system via the Commission’s website.

By November 2 this year, the number of voters aged 18 will be 18.68 million.
