DHS urges California not to release immigrant accused of sexually abusing a girl
LOS ANGELES:- The Department of Homeland Security has urged that an undocumented immigrant accused of sexually abusing a young girl not be released from jail, citing the jurisdiction’s “sanctuary” policy. This request concerns an undocumented immigrant accused of sexually abusing a six-year-old girl at a day-care center in Sacramento.
According to local news reports, the incident took place in July 2025 at a day-care center where Gökhan Bağcı, a Turkish immigrant, was employed. The victim’s mother stated that Bağcı took the girl into a closet under the pretext of playing hide-and-seek and sexually abused her. He is also accused of subsequently taking the girl to the restroom that same day and raping her.
Bagsi was arrested by the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office on August 22, 2025, and ICE lodged a ‘detainer’ against him on the same day. He is accused of engaging in obscene and sexual acts with a girl under the age of 14.
“This immigrant is accused of sexually abusing a six-year-old girl at the day-care center where he worked,” said Assistant Secretary Lauren Bisse. “He now faces charges involving obscene and lewd acts with a child. We call upon ‘sanctuary’ politicians to commit to not releasing this individual—who harbors a depraved mindset—from jail and to cooperate with ICE’s law enforcement processes.”
According to the DHS, Bagsi first entered the United States illegally by crossing the southern border on November 21, 2023. He traveled to Istanbul, Turkey, on December 12, 2023, and subsequently re-entered the U.S. on September 17, 2024.
