Death toll in Bhotekoshi floods reaches 1,344: 5,000 still missing

So far, DNA samples have been collected from a total of 2,232 individuals, comprising 1,260 deceased persons and 972 of their relatives. RASUWA:- The bodies of 1,344 people caught in the devastating floods of the Bhote Koshi River have been recovered. According to the latest updated figures released by the Nepal Police, 4,898 people remain missing.
Police report that the 1,344 recovered bodies include 489 men, 269 women, 52 boys, and 33 girls. Partial remains of another 501 bodies have also been found, and their identities are yet to be established.
Among the 4,898 missing persons, 2,930 are Nepali citizens and 618 are foreign nationals. The missing Nepalis include 2,448 men and 482 women. Police stated that information regarding the disappearance of 1,350 individuals was received via telephone.
So far, 8,631 people have been rescued alive from flood-affected areas. Those rescued include 7,387 Nepali nationals and 1,244 foreign nationals. A total of 3,655 displaced individuals have currently been accommodated in various holding centers.
A police force of 7,212 personnel has been mobilized for search and rescue operations. During the rescue efforts, 65 police personnel were affected by the floods, while 25 remain out of contact.
