Tisha Shakya crowned 19th Miss Newa
KATHMANDU:- Tisha Shakya from Patan, Lalitpur, has won the title of the 19th edition of Miss Newa: Nepal. In the competition organized by Nepalese Fashion Home and held on Sunday at the Nepal Academy in Kamaladi, Shakya surpassed 16 other contestants to secure the title and a cash prize of one lakh rupees.
Title-winner Tisha won the main ‘Miss Newa: Nepal’ crown as well as the ‘Godawari Municipality Best Nepal Bhasa’ title. She was awarded an additional 10,000 rupees for this achievement.
Sarika Maharjan and Jessica Shrestha were declared the first and second runners-up of the competition, respectively. As the first and second runners-up, Sarika received a cash prize of 50,000 rupees, while Jessica received 25,000 rupees.
In the competition held under the chief guestship of Kathmandu Metropolitan City Acting Mayor and former Miss Newa: Nepal Sunita Dangol, Sabnam Shakya was declared Miss Talent, while Himani Pradhan and Karuna Chakradhar were named Miss Talent First Runner-up and Miss Talent Second Runner-up, respectively. Karuna Chakradhar and Shiksha Maharjan were declared Chief Social Welfare Ambassadors; in the same category, Sarika Maharjan became the First Runner-up and Drishti Maharjan the Second Runner-up.
In the competition, Durga Deula won the title of Miss Discipline, Himani Pradhan won Miss Public Choice, and Pristine Awale won Best Dress. Shiksha Maharjan won the Kanchenjunga Agarbatti Miss Culture title along with a cash prize of Rs 10,000, while Nishla Maharjan won the Belavita Miss Personality title, also with a cash prize of Rs 10,000.
Kalasha Awale won the title of ‘Miss Best Hair’ along with a cash prize of Rs 10,000; Drishti Maharjan won ‘Best Skin’; Sarika Maharjan was named ‘Miss Photogenic’; Anushka Nakarmi won ‘Miss Smile’; and Sonia Maharjan won ‘Miss Charming’. The title of ‘Miss Friendship’ went to Regina Bajracharya.
In the competition where Gyani Shobha Tuladhar—founder-principal of Namuna College of Fashion Technology and a fashion designer—served as the chief judge, the panel of judges also included Advocate Laxman Maharjan, Jiveshwar Lal Shrestha, Anil Sthapit, Rohan Shrestha, Swarupa Shrestha (co-founder and director of Nepal Cancer Hospital and Research Center), and Prof. Dibya Laxmi Bajracharya (secretary of the Nepal Cancer Relief Society.
