Various highways across the country blocked due to landslides and floods
KATHMANDU:- Continuous rainfall, landslides, and floods have disrupted vehicular movement on major highways and road sections across various districts of the country.
Releasing data valid up to 6:00 AM today, the Nepal Police reported that some roads are completely blocked, while restrictions on vehicle movement have been imposed on others during the night.
Due to the risk of potential flooding, the operation of all types of vehicles has been prohibited from 6:00 PM to 4:00 AM on the Khurkot-Nepalthok-Katunjebesi section of the BP Highway, which connects Kavrepalanchok and Sindhuli.
Similarly, the operation of all types of vehicles has been banned on the Kanti Lokpath from 5:00 PM to 5:00 AM. Meanwhile, vehicular movement has been completely halted on the Mechi Highway at Ilam Municipality-9 after the road became muddy due to rainfall.
The Arniko Highway is completely blocked following landslides in the Zero Kilo and Kodari areas of Bhote-Koshi Rural Municipality, Sindhupalchok.
The Lamasanghu-Ramechhap road section at Kirnetar in Tamakoshi Rural Municipality-5, Dolakha, is also blocked after the flow of the Tamakoshi River caused soil erosion, cutting away the road. Similarly, the Pasang Lhamu Highway section at Khalte in Uttargaya Rural Municipality-5, Rasuwa, is completely blocked due to erosion caused by the Trishuli River.
Similarly, police have reported that the Larke-Benighat earthen road has been completely blocked due to a landslide at Andardanda in Dharche Rural Municipality-3, Gorkha.
Given the high risk of landslides, floods, and road erosion during the monsoon season, the police have urged everyone to check the condition of the roads with the concerned authorities and exercise necessary caution before traveling.
