Government serious and sensitive regarding unrest in some districts: Prime Minister Shah

KATHMANDU:- Expressing sorrow over the incidents in places such as Dewanganj in Sunsari and Siraha, Prime Minister Walendra Shah has stated that the Government of Nepal is fully serious and sensitive regarding the unrest that has arisen in certain districts.

Addressing the nation today, Prime Minister Shah paid heartfelt tributes to the citizens who lost their lives in these tragic incidents—Jayaprakash Mehta, Omprakash Mehta, and Ganesh Yadav—and extended deep condolences to the bereaved families on behalf of the Government of Nepal.

“I stand before you today at a highly sensitive moment,” he said. “Accusing an entire community over an unexpected and tragic incident that occurred in one part of the country, and spreading the flames of retaliation to other regions as well, cannot be justified or considered fair from any perspective.”

Noting that the Constitution of Nepal guarantees every citizen the fundamental right to practice their respective religions, cultures, and traditions, he stated that the government is fully committed to fulfilling its constitutional obligations.

Wishing a speedy recovery to all those injured in the incident, Prime Minister Shah stated that clear directives have already been issued to the concerned health authorities to ensure there is no negligence or delay in the treatment of the injured.

He stated that immediately following the incident, all security agencies rushed to the scene and have been continuously working to normalize the situation, prevent further untoward incidents, and maintain peace and security.

“The Ministry of Home Affairs has already formed an inquiry committee to conduct an impartial investigation and take strict legal action against the guilty; I want to assure everyone that this investigation will be completely fair and transparent. The government is committed to bringing anyone involved in the incident to justice,” the Prime Minister said.

Prime Minister Shah has also clarified that the Government of Nepal is continuously active in ensuring the situation does not deteriorate further, preventing any loss of life or property among citizens, and fostering an atmosphere of trust at the local level.

He noted that an all-party meeting was convened at the central level to hold in-depth discussions aimed at normalizing the situation, and that continuous dialogue is being maintained with elected representatives, civil society, religious leaders, community leaders, and social figures right down to the local level.

“The Home Minister himself, accompanied by high-ranking security officials, has already departed for the site of the incident to directly monitor the situation on the ground, engage in dialogue with the affected parties, and further strengthen peace and security,” he said. “A meeting of the National Security Council has also been held to conduct a serious review of the overall state of the country’s peace and security, and necessary decisions appropriate to the situation have been made.”

At this sensitive juncture, Prime Minister Shah has made a special appeal to everyone to refrain from disseminating—or causing the dissemination of—false or unverified information, rumors, hate speech, or content that fosters discord among communities via social media or other channels, and has urged them to rely solely on official facts and information issued by government agencies.

“Protecting the life and property of every citizen, preserving social harmony, and maintaining peace in society is the state’s supreme and primary responsibility. The state will remain further vigilant and sensitive in the days ahead,” he said. Noting that all government mechanisms are working tirelessly to ensure the safety of every citizen, he stated that the government is fully vigilant against any activities that disrupt peace and security, spread anarchy, or undermine our centuries-old social harmony, tolerance, and brotherhood, and that stern action will be taken against such activities.

“Religion is a force that connects society and fosters love; no religion or culture in the world teaches violence, hatred, or division. The core essence of all religions is compassion, kindness, love, and peace,” he said. “History bears witness that—even in the most difficult and trying circumstances—mutual unity, tolerance, and wisdom have proven to be our greatest strengths.” He emphasized that everyone must fulfill their role as responsible citizens to dispel the clouds of unrest gathering over the beautiful and peaceful Nepali sky.

Prime Minister Shah addressed in Maithali and urged to maintain national unity. “We, civil society, religious community, all respectable leaders, all political parties and responsible media, have a sincere appeal to the government to adopt patience and restraint to maintain peace, harmony, brotherhood and national unity”, he said.
