Nepal Government made detailed job descriptions mandatory for migrant workers
Under the new system, it is mandatory to clearly specify whether the work is to be performed inside the company (indoor) or outside the company (outdoor). If the role involves both types of work, the working hours for each must be stated when seeking verification of the demand.
KATHMANDU:- The Ministry of Youth, Labour and Employment has implemented a new provision regarding demand verification to further streamline the process of sending Nepali workers for foreign employment.
Through a ministerial-level decision made on July 29, the Ministry has mandated that a detailed job description—outlining the specific tasks the worker is required to perform—must be included when verifying demands for foreign employment.
Under the new system, it is mandatory to clearly specify whether the work is to be performed inside the company (indoor) or outside the company (outdoor). If the role involves both types of work, the working hours for each must be stated when seeking verification of the demand.
The Ministry has stated that while previously a mere job title sufficed for demand verification, a detailed description of duties is now mandatory.
The terms of service, remuneration, benefits, working environment, and other aspects of the agreement proposed by employers in destination countries are being verified in accordance with the Guidelines on the Examination of Demand Letters for Foreign Employment, 2075.
According to the ministry, the new arrangement is expected to help minimize the potential exploitation and fraud faced by Nepali workers during foreign employment, ensure the protection of their terms of service, and make the process of sending workers abroad more fair, transparent, and effective.
