Gokarna Lamichhane elected president of Canada-Nepal Chamber of Commerce

TORONTO:-The Federation of Canada Nepal Chambers of Commerce has elected a new leadership at its second annual general meeting.

The meeting held in Toronto unanimously elected Gokarna Lamichhane as the president. Lamichhane had previously served as the general secretary of the executive committee led by Bijay Poudel.

This organization, which has been active in Canada for the past six years, has been playing a coordinating role in strengthening trade relations between Canada and Nepal.

The general meeting has also announced a new working committee for the upcoming term. Accordingly, Laxman Mandal has been elected as the vice-chairman, Navin Luintel as the general secretary, Binod Shrestha as the secretary, and Surendra Surana as the treasurer.

Similarly, Purnima Daga, Ishwar Chand Rajan, Archana Pradhan, Kedar Shiwakoti, and Bishnu Poudel have been elected as the working committee members.

After the election, Election Officer Dr. Tulsi Dharel congratulated the newly elected executive committee and wished them a successful tenure. Outgoing president of the organization, Vijay Poudel, emphasized that the active participation of all members is essential to make the organization stronger.

Upon assuming office, newly elected President Gokarna Lamichhane expressed his commitment to develop the organization as a common place for exchanging experiences and providing guidance. He said that concrete and systematic work would be prioritized over frivolity. Lamichhane aims to take forward the ‘Membership Drive’ as a campaign in the coming days and integrate the Nepali business community and bring their issues to the relevant bodies with strength.

Lamichhane plans to coordinate with the governments of both countries to take business relations between Nepal and Canada to the next level. He said that he will prioritize assisting Nepalis who want to start a business in Canada with the ‘startup’ process, providing basic information, and expanding their networks with successful entrepreneurs. He also clarified that the team will work on how Canada can make a tangible contribution to the economy of the homeland, while embracing the Nepalese government’s policy of attracting investment from Nepalis living abroad.
