Water level at Koshi Barrage crosses danger level

SAPTARI:-With the increased flow of the Saptakoshi River, the water level at the Koshi Barrage has surpassed the danger mark. According to the latest reading taken at 6:20 PM on Wednesday, the discharge of water through the Koshi Barrage stands at 229,650 cusecs.

In light of the potential risks associated with the Saptakoshi River, 28 of the barrage’s 56 sluice gates have been opened to manage the flow. Local authorities and technical teams have adopted a state of high alert following the rise in water levels beyond the danger point.

When the water flow at the Koshi Barrage exceeds 150,000 cusecs, a red warning light is illuminated on the western side to alert the public.

Due to the high water flow in the river, the local administration has urged residents of the Koshi River’s riparian areas to remain vigilant and exercise a high level of caution. The administration has advised people to stay away from the riverbanks and remain alert.
