Rain and landslides affect a dozen roads; nine highways completely blocked

KATHMANDU:- Landslides and road washouts caused by incessant rainfall have affected various major highways and road sections across the country.

Releasing data valid up to 6:00 AM today, the Nepal Police reported that nine road sections are completely blocked.

According to the police, the operation of all types of vehicles has been prohibited from 6:00 PM to 4:00 AM on the Khurkot-Nepalthok-Katunjebesi section of the BP Highway—which connects Kavrepalanchok and Sindhuli—due to the potential risk of flooding.

The operation of all types of vehicles on the Kanti Lokpath has also been prohibited from 5:00 PM to 5:00 AM throughout the monsoon season.

The Mechi Highway at Rajduwali in Ilam Municipality-9 is completely blocked due to the road becoming muddy. Meanwhile, the Arniko Highway is fully obstructed by landslides in the Zero Kilo and Kodari areas of Bhote-Koshi Rural Municipality, Sindhupalchok.

Similarly, the following road sections are completely blocked due to landslides: the Kaligandaki Corridor at Belbagar in Jaimini Municipality-8, Baglung; the Ghorahi-Thawang Shahid Highway in Paribartan Rural Municipality, Rolpa; the Nagma-Gamgadhi Road at Pina Khola in Chhayanath Rara Municipality-7, Mugu; the Pasang Lhamu Road section in Gosaikunda Rural Municipality, Rasuwa; the Mid-Hill Highway at Panikhola in Panchadewal Binayak Municipality-4, Achham; and the Besisahar-Chame-Manang Road section at Myagde Bhir in Marsyangdi Rural Municipality-4, Lamjung.

Meanwhile, police have reported that although the Lamasanghu-Ramechhap road section at Kirnetar in Tamakoshi Rural Municipality-5, Dolakha, has been obstructed due to erosion by the Tamakoshi River, an alternative route has been brought into operation through the premises of the Khimti Rural Electricity Cooperative.
