RSP MP Sunar denies controversial audio
KATHMANDU:-Khagendra Sunar, a Member of Parliament from the ruling coalition partner Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), has stated to the party’s investigation committee that the audio recording concerning a dispute with a woman is not his. MP Sunar submitted a written denial to the disciplinary committee.
A few days ago, an audio recording of a dispute between Sunar and a woman was made public. Following the release of the audio, the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) formed an investigation committee led by Hari Chandra Bhattarai, the deputy chief of its Disciplinary Commission. MP Sunar has claimed to this committee that the voice heard in the audio is not his.
Coordinator Bhattarai informed that MP Sunar has sent a letter denying the allegations regarding the controversial audio. Bhattarai stated that, in the written denial, Sunar also mentioned that he had already shared the gist of his side of the story via social media.
Bhattarai stated, “He has sent a letter denying the contents of the audio. In essence, he has denied that it is his voice. The letter also contains certain points that cannot be disclosed publicly.” According to Bhattarai, the investigation has now reached the stage of analyzing the audio and video materials. Along with the audio involving MP Sunar, the committee also received an audio recording featuring a woman. Bhattarai noted that this audio is currently in the collection phase.
Bhattarai stated that both audio recordings would be discussed further, even though a statement denying the allegations has been received. He said, “Our IT team will also examine the audio recordings. Since this matter concerns women’s rights, children’s rights, and the dignity of a Member of Parliament, it will be studied with the utmost seriousness.”
Sunar has consistently claimed that the audio is not his—asserting that it was generated by AI—and that there is an attempt to defame him. Although Sunar denied the allegations in a video message released early on, the party has initiated an investigation into the matter and barred him from attending public events.
