BUCHAREST:- A passport renewal camp targeting Nepali citizens in Romania seeking foreign employment has been successfully completed.
The five-day camp was organized in Bucharest under the coordination of the Passport Department, Kathmandu and the Nepali Embassy in Berlin, Germany. The camp, which began on March 27 at the Chautari Restaurant in Bucharest, the capital of Romania, continued until March 31. Passport renewal and other consular services were also provided at the camp.
According to Nepali Acting Ambassador to Germany Sagar Prasad Phuyal, a total of 1,391 service recipients submitted ‘pre-enrollment’ forms for passport renewal during the camp. Similarly, 10 people received other consular services including official power of attorney authentication, the embassy said.
This camp has proven to be very effective for Nepalis whose passports are about to expire and who are facing the hassle of reaching Germany for renewal. A team led by Ranjan Yadav, First Secretary of the Embassy, managed the camp. The team included Third Secretary Dipendra Prasad Sah and officers from the Passport Department, Kathmandu, Anand Chubai Subedi and Subash Magar. The team worked from morning till late to verify the documents of the service recipients and collect biometrics.
To organize the camp, the embassy had designated representatives of Nepali organizations and local Nepali communities active in Romania as contact persons. Tenzing Lakpa Sherpa, Naresh Giri, Fursang Lama, Til Bahadur Gurung, Gomadevi Thapa Magar, Gauriman Limbu, Sagar Chhetri, and Yubaraj Lamichhane coordinated the camp.
Currently, the number of Nepali workers in Romania has exceeded 50,000. Despite such a large number of Nepalis working there, no formal diplomatic mission or mechanism has been established by Nepal so far. Such mobile camps have been providing great relief to Nepalis who are forced to go to Germany or other countries for even basic services due to the lack of a diplomatic body.
