India invites Prime Minister Balendra Shah for an official visit
The invitation for the Nepali Prime Minister to visit India was extended following an informal meeting last week between Prime Minister Shah's advisor, Kumar Ben, and Indian National Security Advisor Ajit Doval—this occurring amidst reports that South Block was reluctant to facilitate such a visit.
KATHMANDU:-Amidst speculation in diplomatic circles that India—Nepal’s southern neighbor—had not extended an invitation to Prime Minister Balendra Shah, just as it had not to former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, Prime Minister Shah has finally received an invitation for an official visit to India.
It has been reported that the Government of India has sent a formal invitation to visit India to Shah, who was appointed Prime Minister on the 13th of Chaitra.
On Tuesday, Randhir Jaiswal, the spokesperson for the Indian Ministry of External Affairs, announced that an invitation to visit India had been extended to the Prime Minister of Nepal.
He said, “An invitation has been sent to the Prime Minister of Nepal to visit India.”
Although journalists asked further questions regarding the Nepali Prime Minister’s visit, he did not provide a response.
Immediately after Shah was appointed Prime Minister, he had declined a meeting with Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, who sought to meet him as a special envoy.
