Government trying to silence and intimidate: President Thapa
KATHMANDU:- Nepali Congress President Gagan Thapa has stated that no one can take away the right and the courage to ask questions.
Speaking at a program organized by the party on Monday—and addressing the incident where a vehicle was parked suspiciously in front of his home—General Secretary Thapa asserted that no one can strip society of its right to question.
Thapa expressed regret, stating that the government is attempting to silence those who raise questions. He mentioned that locals from Ratopul reported seeing two individuals, who had arrived in a vehicle and parked it there, leaving in a vehicle belonging to the administration.
“Who is doing this astonishing thing? The government itself is doing it. The government has stepped in to silence those who raise questions,” he said. “On behalf of the Nepali Congress party, we state this: all these actions are deplorable. No one can take away society’s—or the Congress’s—right to question, nor can anyone strip us of our courage.”
Thapa stated that the government was attempting to silence and intimidate him. Noting that the army and police had once arrived via the alleyway by his home due to errors on his part, he remarked that the alley had witnessed a great deal.
“The police have come through that very alley by my house at times; the army has come too. I, too, have entered through that same alley. My alley has seen a lot. I have seen a lot. We have all seen a lot. The idea that Nepali society should be able to ask questions is nothing new,” he said.
