Bhotekoshi flood: 1,367 bodies recovered so far
KATHMANDU:- A total of 1,367 bodies have been retrieved so far following the devastating flash floods that struck the Bhotekoshi and Trishuli river systems on August 26.
Wednesday marks the 16th day since the disaster occurred.
According to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA), the bodies were collected from Rasuwa (174), Nuwakot (197), Dhading (70), Gorkha (75), Tanahu ( 38), Chitwan ( 363), Nawalparasi East ( 226), and Nawalparasi West (222).
As of now, 102 bodies have been identified and handed over to their families, said NDRRMA Spokesperson Shanti Mahat.
The number of those who are officially recorded on the list of missing persons stands at 5,132, including 45 Nepali Army personnel, 25 Nepal Police personnel, 12 Armed Police Force personnel, 73 government employees, 26 bank and financial institutions’ employees, and around 589 foreign tourists
Security personnel have further intensified search and rescue operations in the affected areas.
A total of 13,646 people have so far been rescued, while 3,628 are taking shelter in holding centres based in Nuwakot, Dhading, Rasuwa and Kathmandu.
Likewise, a total of 7,151 have been treated.
Security agencies, local levels, and various government and non-government agencies are engaged in the search, rescue, relief, and other management operations as a priority.(RSS)
