BAGLUNG:- Following the rain, a captivating view of Mount Dhaulagiri has emerged from Kudule Phedi in Baglung this morning. The sight of the mountain, revealed amidst clear weather, has drawn the attention of both locals and tourists.
Located in western Nepal, Mount Dhaulagiri stands at an elevation of 8,167 meters, making it the seventh-highest mountain in the world. The name ‘Dhaulagiri’ is derived from the Sanskrit language and means “White Mountain”—a meaning well understood by those who have attempted to climb it. Dhaulagiri is notable for more than just its height; its challenging terrain, adverse weather, and hazardous conditions are such that even experienced mountaineers must think twice before embarking on an expedition to climb it.
Before a survey conducted in the mid-1800s confirmed Mount Everest as the world’s highest peak, Dhaulagiri was considered the tallest mountain in the world. However, Dhaulagiri was not successfully summited until 1960, making it one of the last of the 8,000-meter peaks to be climbed. This late first ascent was not due to a lack of interest, but rather because the mountain is exceptionally difficult to climb.
Even today, Dhaulagiri remains one of the least commercially active mountains in Nepal. It tends to attract serious and committed mountaineers rather than typical tourist groups. Due to its high mortality rate, technical challenges, and remote geographical location, the number of climbers here is low; consequently, this mountain is approached with great caution and respect.
Dhaulagiri is the seventh-highest mountain in the world, with an elevation of 8,167 meters (26,795 feet). It is considered one of the highest and most challenging destinations in the realm of high-altitude mountaineering. It is part of the ‘Dhaulagiri Massif’—a dense cluster of major peaks located in the Dhaulagiri region of western Nepal. With its stunning appearance and the heavenly bliss one feels upon reaching it, the captivating sight of Mount Dhaulagiri awaits you. Why not head to Dhaulagiri yourself—whether to reach its summit or simply to behold its beauty and find joy?
