Voter roll will be updated through NID and civil registration system

KATHMANDU:- The Election Commission (EC) is set to revise the voter list and verify the information by utilising data from the National Identity Card and Civil Registration Departments.

In accordance with the agreement between the Election Commission and the Departments, the process of updating the voter list will leverage details from the personal details registration and social security management information system.

As stated by the Commission’s spokesperson, Narayan Prasad Bhattarai, the department will securely transmit the civil registration details to the Commission via secure technical means as per the agreement. A memorandum of understanding was executed between the two entities on October 29, aimed at enhancing the convenience, systematic nature, and effectiveness of the voter list updating process.

The memorandum outlines provisions for developing the necessary technical systems to ensure the secure exchange and utilisation of information, as well as the security and confidentiality of the data.

Furthermore, a joint technical working group comprising representatives from both parties will be established to address any technical challenges that may arise during the implementation of the agreement.

This collaboration is anticipated to render the process of updating and verifying the voter list more systematic, reliable, and effective by utilising details from the personal event registration and social security management information system. RSS
