Government, Hindu Organizations Sign 13-Point Agreement After Janakpur Talks
The government has agreed to review cases involving people arrested following the Dewanganj incident in Sunsari, ensure medical treatment for those injured during the protests, and examine the process of Nepali citizenship distribution.
JANAKPUR:- The government and representatives of various Hindu organizations have signed a 13-point agreement following negotiations in Janakpurdham aimed at easing recent tensions and promoting religious harmony and social peace.
The talks were led by Home Minister Sudhan Gurung and attended by representatives of the United Hindu Front, including the protesting Hindu Samrat Sena. According to Dhanusha Chief District Officer Prem Prasad Luintel, the agreement addresses issues related to religious harmony, social peace and national identity raised by the organizations.
A key provision of the agreement commits the government to initiate an all-party discussion within three months on the proposal to declare Nepal a Hindu nation.
The agreement also includes measures to regulate the carrying and display of weapons and other provocative activities at religious sites. It provides for restrictions on the use of loudspeakers and sound amplification systems at places of worship, allowing their use only for essential religious activities within prescribed limits.
In addition, authorities will maintain records of individuals residing at religious institutions, with particular attention to foreign nationals. The agreement also calls for legal action against those found spreading religious or ethnic hatred through social media.

The negotiation meeting was attended by Home Minister Sudhan Gurung, Madhesh Province Chief Minister Krishna Prasad Yadav, Finance Minister Yuvraj Bhattarai, Madhesh Province Home Minister Fakira Mahato, House of Representatives member Manish Jha, Janakpurdham Sub-Metropolitan City Mayor Manoj Kumar Sah, and representatives of the participating Hindu organizations.
