Thanedar and Krishnamoorthi urge greater engagement in American politics to counter anti-immigrant sentiment

WASHINGTON:- Indian-American lawmakers Shri Thanedar and Raja Krishnamoorthi have expressed the view that political unity and commitment are essential to combat anti-immigrant sentiment in the United States. They have also urged members of the Indian-American community to become politically active in order to address anti-immigrant sentiment.

Addressing an event in Washington, Indian-origin politician Raja Krishnamoorthi emphasized the need to increase the political participation of the Indian-American community amidst growing concerns over anti-India and anti-immigrant sentiments.

Democratic lawmakers Thanedar and Krishnamoorthi in the U.S. House of Representatives have urged immigrants of Indian origin to seek public office at various levels of government.

Krishnamoorthi has previously expressed concern regarding anti-Hindu and anti-India hatred and has urged Indian-Americans to participate more actively in civic life. Regardless of political affiliation, he has called upon community members to raise their voices, take part in elections, and consider running for elected office.

Lawmakers Thanedar and Krishnamoorthi emphasized that participation in local and national politics is important not merely for representation, but also to ensure that issues affecting the immigrant community—such as immigration policy, civil rights, and religious freedom—receive greater attention.

Amidst concerns regarding hatred and discrimination, those elected representatives also emphasized their commitment to firmly confronting anti-Indian sentiment and supporting the community.

Thanedar said, “Indian-Americans should view themselves as an integral and active part of the American political system and leverage their growing presence to help shape the country’s future.”
