‘Nepal-UAE Economic Partnership’ event concludes in Abu Dhabi

ABU DHABI:- The ‘Nepal-UAE Economic Partnership’ event, organized by the Embassy of Nepal in Abu Dhabi, has concluded with the aim of promoting Nepal as a destination for trade and investment.

At the commencement of the event held on July 9 at the Conrad Hotel in Abu Dhabi, a special message from Nepal’s Foreign Minister, Shishir Khanal, was read out. In his message, Minister Khanal called upon UAE investors and businesspeople to invest in Nepal’s priority sectors and pledged the Government of Nepal’s commitment to facilitating partnerships based on long-term and mutual interests.

The event saw a significant presence of high-ranking UAE government officials, policymakers, and prominent business leaders, including H.E. Fahad Al Gergawi, Undersecretary at the UAE Ministry of Foreign Trade, and H.E. Juma Mohammed Al Kait, Advisor to the Minister of Economy and Tourism and Treasurer of the Abu Dhabi Chamber.

In his remarks, Nepali Ambassador Tej Bahadur Chhetri highlighted the historic friendship between Nepal and the UAE and noted the immense potential for expanding bilateral economic cooperation. Ambassador Kshetri highlighted Nepal’s investment-friendly environment, ongoing economic reforms, and investment opportunities—particularly in the sectors of hydropower, tourism, agriculture, information technology, and infrastructure development. He encouraged UAE investors to explore Nepal’s emerging market and enhance business engagement.

On the occasion, four thematic papers were presented covering various aspects of Nepal’s economic landscape and bilateral opportunities. Ranjita Dahal, Counsellor and Deputy Chief of Mission at the Embassy, ​​presented a paper on Nepal’s economic situation and investment prospects, while Manoj Paudel of the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) highlighted priorities regarding trade and investment.

Similarly, Abi Man Joshi of Deloitte & Touche provided information on the legal and tax provisions governing bilateral investment, while Sajan Sharma, former President of the Fintech Alliance Nepal, presented an overview of policy reforms in Nepal’s information and communication technology sector and opportunities within the digital economy.

The event, attended by over 120 distinguished individuals, saw the presence of UAE investors, technology experts, tourism entrepreneurs, media personnel, representatives of the Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA), and Nepali entrepreneurs. An exhibition of Nepali handicrafts and performances of traditional cultural dances were also featured at the event.

The event, during which participants were presented with Nepali Orthodox tea as a gift, was conducted by Sonia Dotel, Third Secretary at the Embassy. A promotional video highlighting Nepal’s investment potential was also screened at the conclusion of the program.
