KATHMANDU:- Efforts to locate, organize, and digitize thousands of case and investigation files related to foreign employment fraud—which had been languishing at the Department for approximately 25 years—are proceeding rapidly.
According to the Department of Foreign Employment, the task of locating and creating organized records for critical case and investigation files that had been left in limbo since the year 2057 BS (approx. 2000 AD) has been completed. The Department stated that thousands of files, which had been sitting in storage for about 25 years, have now been systematically categorized and their physical records properly organized.
After the Foreign Employment Act was promulgated in BS 2042, (1985), foreign employment-related work was being carried out through the Department of Labor. Then, with the establishment of the Department of Labor and Employment Promotion in BS 2056, (1999), complaints of Nepali workers going for foreign employment started being registered. After the formation of the Department of Foreign Employment in BS 2064, (2007), all related work has been conducted through the department.
As complaints of foreign employment fraud are increasing, Minister for Youth, Labor and Employment Ramji Yadav has been directing the department to work proactively, keeping the cases and investigations on high priority. Under the special interest of Minister Yadav and the leadership of the department’s Director General Mira Acharya, the work of searching, managing and archiving files that have been lying dormant for a long time has been intensified.
The department has also rapidly moved forward with the work of scanning all the files found and preparing digital copies. The department has also stated that preparations are underway to develop a digital tracking system to make the case and investigation process more effective in the coming days.
The department plans to update the digital system with details of all available case and investigation files dating back to the year 2057 BS and integrate them into the judicial process. This initiative is expected to facilitate the delivery of prompt, transparent, and effective services to victims of foreign employment fraud who have long been awaiting justice.
