Special screening of Hollywood film ‘Tenzing’ in Kathmandu
KATHMANDU:- The highly anticipated Hollywood film ‘Tenzing’, produced by the technology company Apple, has premiered in Nepal. The British Embassy hosted a special screening on Monday evening.
The event, held at the QFX multiplex in Civil Mall, was attended by Members of Parliament, diplomats from the UK, the US, and European nations, celebrities, film industry professionals, leaders in the mountaineering community, as well as the film’s producers, director, and cast members.
Actress Manisha Koirala was also present, as was Thinle Lhamo, the actress from the film ‘Tenzing’.
Director Jennifer Peedom and representatives from the New Zealand-based production company See-Saw Films also attended the event. The British Embassy stated that the proceeds from the screening would be deposited into the government’s Natural Disaster Relief Fund, established to provide aid to flood victims.
The two-hour-long film received a positive response at this special screening. Nepali crew members who worked on the film—which was shot in locations including the Everest region, Patan, Bandipur, and Mustang—also attended the event. Location manager and cinematographer Vishnu Kalpit was present on the occasion as well.
This film tells the story of the historic first ascent of Mount Everest by Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay Sherpa in 1953. It follows the life journey of the protagonist, Tenzing Norgay (played by Genden Phuntsok), presenting a courageous and inspiring tale of how he joined the British mountaineering team and skillfully led the climb.
Phuntsok has brilliantly portrayed the role of Tenzing in the film. Thinle plays the role of Norgay’s wife. Tom Hiddleston appears as Edmund Hillary, while Willem Dafoe plays the leader of the mountaineering team.
This film also premiered at the Toronto Film Festival last week. It is reported that the film will be screened in select theaters in the UK and the US on October 9. It is also scheduled to be available on Apple TV starting October 16.
