NHRC appeals to seek solution thru peaceful dialogue

KATHMANDU:- The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has appealed to the stakeholders to maintain social harmony in the community by seeking a solution to the Dewangunj incident through a peaceful dialogue.

The Commission has asked the political parties, civil society, human rights activists and general public to opt for dialogue to resolve the issue of disputes that took place between the two communities in Dewangunj of Sunsari.

Koshi Province Office of NHRC has been carrying out a preliminary supervision on the clash between the two communities and the death of Om Prakash Mehta in a police firing following the disputes.

Similarly, the Commission has been enquiring the Chief District Officer, Police Chief, hospital administration and locals about the incident.

A press statement issued by NHRC Spokesperson Dr Tikaram Pokharel on Monday reads, “The NHRC directs the government to ensure law and order following the Sunsari incident, to book the guilty by investigating the incident, to provide relief and compensation to the deceased’s family and to make arrangements for free and effective treatment to those injured.” RSS
