Nepal’s competition in tennis and athletics today

KATHMANDU:- Nepal is set to compete in tennis and athletics on Monday as part of the ongoing Asian Games in Japan. According to the National Sports Council (NSC), the pair of Shivali Gurung and Swastika Bista will face the Japanese duo of Momoko Kobori and Ayano Shimizu in the first round of the women’s doubles tennis event today.

In the women’s singles event, however, both Shivali and Swastika were eliminated in the first round. Shivali was defeated by South Korea’s Dayeon Bak (6–1, 6–0), while Swastika lost to Japan’s Moyuka Uchijima (6–1, 6–1).

Shivali also failed to advance to the second round in the mixed doubles event. In the second round of the men’s singles, Abhishek Bastola is set to play against Kazakhstan’s Alexander Shevchenko today.

Abhishek had previously made a promising start to the tournament by securing a win in the men’s doubles alongside Pradip Khadka. In athletics, Nepal’s Santoshi Shrestha and Purna Laxmi Neupane will compete in the women’s 5,000-meter final today.
