KATHMANDU:- The newly elected central office-bearers and working committee members from Gagan Thapa’s faction of the Nepali Congress have taken the oath of office and secrecy.

At a special ceremony held on Thursday at the party office in Sanepa, Party President Gagan Kumar Thapa administered the oath of office and secrecy to the office-bearers and central committee members elected during the 15th General Convention.

Chairman Thapa took the oath of office and secrecy on Ashoj 31. Immediately following the oath-taking, certificates of election were distributed to the newly elected Central Committee members.

During the 15th General Convention, held at Khulamanch in Kathmandu from Ashoj 18 to 23, the following individuals were elected as Vice-Chairmen: Bishwa Prakash Sharma (Senior Vice-Chairman); Dr. Chandra Kanta Bhandari and Er. Madhu Acharya (Vice-Chairmen under the open category); Pushpa Bhusal (Vice-Chairwoman for the women’s category); and Binod Chaudhary (Vice-Chairman for the inclusive category).

Similarly, Pradip Paudel, Udaya Shamsher J.B.R., and Dr. Dila Sangraula (Panta) were elected as the three General Secretaries.

Likewise, 11 Joint General Secretaries have been elected from various clusters. However, the Congress party has withheld the swearing-in of four Central Committee members, as a case concerning them is currently sub judice (pending in court).

Newly elected Central Committee members Santosh Chalise, Binita Khadka, Mohan Basnet, and Umesh Chandra Yadav could not take the oath of office.

Following the oath-taking and assumption of office, the first meeting of the new Central Working Committee is set to be held in Sanepa.

It is reported that the meeting will address various matters, including extending thanks to the General Convention representatives, the Election Committee, security personnel, media representatives, and the entire party rank and file for their support in successfully conducting the General Convention.
