Nepali Congress 24 leaders begins group discussion and dialogue on party unity

KATHMANDU:- Twenty-four central leaders of the Nepali Congress have demanded the immediate postponement of the General Convention schedule to ensure full unity.

They issued a joint statement making this call, noting that internal party disputes are negatively impacting national politics at a time when the country is facing a grave crisis and disaster, and political systems and institutions are weakening.

Leaders have emphasized that internal infighting within the Congress party is making it difficult to steer national politics in the right direction; they stressed that the leadership must act seriously to prevent the dispute from escalating further or the party from splitting.

The statement notes that the role of Party President Gagan Thapa will be particularly crucial in selecting strong leadership and charting a clear course for the Congress party through the upcoming 15th General Convention.

The leaders have called for the immediate suspension of the 15th General Convention schedule announced by both factions. The statement concludes that, rather than dwelling on past differences and the bittersweet experiences of the past, the party must move forward united.

The leaders making the public appeal include Mahalaxmi Upadhyay ‘Dina’, Nain Singh Mahar, Surendra Pandey, Shyam Ghimire, Jeevan Bahadur Shahi, Min Bahadur Bishwakarma, Ramhari Khatiwada, and Sita Kumari Rana.

Similarly, leaders including Saraswati Bajimaya, Man Bahadur Nepali, Radha Ghale, Govinda Bhattarai, Umeshjung Rayamajhi, Ishwari Neupane, Sita Gurung, Shanti Pariyar, Sushila Thing, Ganesh Lama, Rama Koirala Paudel, Lalitjung Shahi, Pradip Kumar Sunuwar, Indra Bahadur Baniya, and Anil Rungta have signed the statement and expressed their solidarity.

Leader Mahar stated that all parties have been urged—including through direct meetings—to resolve the dispute immediately through dialogue, consensus, and cooperation, and to work towards building a united and powerful Congress during this critical juncture.
