Janaastha Editor Kishor Shrestha released

Journalist Shrestha was released on guarantee immediately after the Supreme Court ordered the release of journalist Kishor Shrestha from custody.

KATHMANDU:- The Supreme Court has ordered the release of journalist Kishor Shrestha from custody.

The Supreme Court ordered the release of Shrestha, the Editor-in-Chief of *Jana-Aastha*, and directed the return of electronic devices seized from his office.

A joint bench comprising Justices Dr. Nahakul Subedi and Balkrishna Dhakal issued a writ of mandamus today ordering the release of journalist Shrestha, following a hearing on the *habeas corpus* petition filed at the Supreme Court by his wife, Saraswati Shrestha.

Shrestha’s wife had filed a writ of habeas corpus, claiming that he was arrested illegally. The Supreme Court has directed that the investigation proceed with Shrestha released on a personal bond or subject to periodic court appearances.

Superintendent of Police Dan Bahadur Thapa of the Kathmandu District Police Range stated that Shrestha was released on personal guarantee in accordance with the order. Shrestha was released on guarantee immediately after the Supreme Court ordered the release of journalist Kishor Shrestha from custody.
