India to open Dhauliganga Dam; alert issued for Mahakali riverside areas
DARCHULA:- Residents living along the banks of the Mahakali River have been urged to exercise caution as the dam of the Dhauliganga Hydropower Project—located in the Pithoragarh district of Uttarakhand, India—is set to be opened.
The District Administration Office, Darchula, issued a notice today advising vigilance after receiving information that NHPC Limited’s Dhauliganga Power Station in Dharchula will open the dam for desilting purposes from 6:00 AM on Wednesday until 6:00 PM on Thursday.
Assistant Chief District Officer Mohan Singh Dhami stated that residents living along the banks of the Mahakali River have been urged to exercise high caution, as the dam gates are set to be opened for silt clearance, creating a risk of rising water levels during that period.
Meanwhile, the District Administration Office, Baitadi, has urged residents living along the banks of the Mahakali River to exercise caution. Assistant Chief District Officer Rajmani Niraula issued a statement today calling for necessary precautionary measures.
He stated that instructions have also been issued to local levels, security agencies, and relevant stakeholders to undertake necessary preparations and remain vigilant in light of potential risks.
