K Annamalai leaves BJP, prepares to start new political party

CHENNAAI:- Former Tamil Nadu BJP chief K Annamalai has decided to quit the Bharatiya Janata Party, claiming that he has no future in the party.

K Annamalai’s decision to quit the BJP comes almost a month after the Tamil Nadu elections. In Tamil Nadu, the BJP had won just one seat in the 234-member House.

“Please wait. We will sit down and talk in two days,” Annamalai told reporters after arriving at the Chennai airport to catch a flight to Delhi.

Curiously, the vehicle in which she arrived at the airport did not have a BJP flag.

“Annamalai feels that there is no opportunity and future for her in the BJP,” a source familiar with the developments told media, explaining the reasons behind her reported decision.

On the eve of Annamalai’s birthday on June 4, posters with slogans like “Our leader, come and lead us” have been put up on major roads and streets in the city.

IPS officer-turned-politician Annam was offered a Rajya Sabha seat, but the Bharatiya Janata Party is preparing to form a new party with a small president.
